Animals Gone Raw

Green Smoothies aren’t just for people!!!

Lisa, Pam and Mindy feed Green Smoothies to their dogs, cats, and horses! What a great way to make sure they are getting all the nutrition they need!!!

You can Google ‘Green Smoothies for pets’ and find lots of information on what to include and how to make smoothies for your critters.

Here is the recipe Mindy uses for her five dogs:

  • In a food processor, add about 3 cups of greens (I like to use collard greens primarily), rotating from time to time so your pets get some variety.
  • To that, add 1/4 cup of a shredded carrots and sweet potato mix, an apple, 1/2 cup of cabbage and half of a zucchini.
  • Pour in 1 cup of filtered water and process until smooth.
  • Add 1 banana, 1/8 cup of barley or wheatgrass powder, 1/4 cup of yogurt or cottage cheese and 2 eggs with shells.

Process again until smooth. Pour the mixture into five pounds of your choice of raw meat. I grind chicken legs and thighs. I also like ground beef. Be sure to add in some organ meat at least twice a week. For the chicken, I add chicken liver. For the beef, I use beef heart. This is just my recipe. There are lots of variations on this.

Every day when Mindy feeds her dogs, her cats jump up on the counter and lap up the mixture. Pam takes it a step further by making adorable little green smoothie ice cubes which her cats lap up with glee!

Pam’s boxers LOVE their daily green smoothie meals!

If you are looking for a powerful but inexpensive meat grinder, you can find The Force 2000W from Mercantile2 on Ebay. Under $150 and WOW!!! We can grind 20 pounds of chicken with bone in less than 30 minutes! Pam loves her Weston #22 Electric Meat Grinder.
